Phoenix Suns news: After suffering a humiliating sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, you can be sure that the Suns will be back with a vengeance this coming season.
The front office has been busy reshaping their roster for what they’re hoping will be a bounce-back year, and it appears that they are now targeting six-time All-Star Kyle Lowry to help their cause.
Phoenix Suns Linked to Kyle Lowry
According to team insider Gerard Bourguet of PHNX Sports, Lowry has emerged as a viable free-agency target for the Suns:
“Kyle Lowry is still in play and the two sides are still talking, but he may wind up back in Philly,” Bourguet reported on X, formerly Twitter.
As the report indicates, the possibility of Lowry running it back with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2024-25 remains in play. The 38-year-old spent the second half of the previous season with Philly, producing averages of 8.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in 28.4 minutes per contest.
Phoenix’s Back-Up Plan
Given his elite resume, it would not be a surprise if other teams also showed interest in Lowry. This could complicate Phoenix’s pursuit of the former NBA champion guard, who is currently an unrestricted free agent.
The Suns, however, reportedly already have a contingency plan in place:
“If Lowry goes elsewhere, the Suns are more than comfortable with Monte Morris filling those backup PG minutes, since he was one of their top 3 targets this offseason,” Bourguet wrote.
The Suns recently signed Morris on a one-year deal, and he will be Bradley Beal’s primary backup if they are unable to lure Lowry to Phoenix.
