The Phoenix Suns have a lot of money committed to player salaries, which is not a surprise considering they have the expensive trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. The Suns could look to make some significant moves in the offseason to create extra flexibility and accumulate draft capital in the process.
To that end, Suns center Jusuf Nurkic could be a trade candidate for Phoenix, which has a staggering tax bill for the 2024-25 NBA season worth over $104 million based on how things stand at the moment.
Jusuf Nurkic a potential trade asset for the Phoenix Suns?
Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report suggested a trade in which the Suns send Nurkic to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance Jr.
The Phoenix Suns need a point guard, whatever flexibility they can find and some way to build out their depth using more than minimum salaries as they blow past the second apron. This deal addresses those concerns while trimming a couple million bucks from the payroll, plus additional tax penalties.
However, Hughes said that the Pelicans likely would not entertain such a trade proposal because of Daniels.
“Daniels is the real prize here, and he’s the main reason New Orleans might cut off these talks quickly. A defense-first facilitator, he makes loads of sense as a supporting piece for the Suns’ trio of scoring stars.”
In any case, it will be an intriguing summer ahead of the Suns, who got swept in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs despite a star-laden roster.
