The late Pope Francis and his take on the issue of US immigration were discussed by conservative commentator and broadcaster Megyn Kelly.
In one of the recent episodes of “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” the ESPN analyst had Megyn Kelly as a guest and one of the topics she tlouched on was ehr take on the legacy of the late Pope Francis.
“On the Pope—look, this was a very liberal pope,” Kelly said. “He was a very progressive guy within the Catholic Church and he was controversial amongst really diehard Christians. They didn’t really much love what he did to the Catholic Church. They certainly didn’t love his announcements on immigration and how we really needed to welcome all the migrants.”
“It’s like, you know what? Why don’t you tell it to Laken Riley’s family as they grieve the loss of their daughter and Jocelyn Nungaray’s family as they grieve the loss of their 12-year-old daughter in Texas,” she went on. “Like, we don’t need a guy who lives in the Vatican surrounded by walls telling us we can’t have walls and we need to have an open borders policy. He was from Latin America. most of the immigrants coming into the United States that are, you know, we’re trying to deal with right now are from Latin America.”
“You know, he clearly had a bias the other way.”
Laken Riley was a 22-year-old nursing student at Augusta University, tragically murdered while jogging at the University of Georgia on February 2024. The perpetrator, José Antonio Ibarra, was a 26-year-old Venezuelan man who had entered the U.S. illegally. He was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including felony murder, malice murder, kidnapping, and aggravated assault with intent to rape.

Jocelyn Nungaray was a 12-year-old who was found dead in a creek in north Houston, Texas in 2024 after being sexually assaulted and strangled. The suspects were both Venezuelan immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally. The suspects face charges of capital murder, kidnapping, and aggravated sexual assault.
World Bids Final Farewell to Pope Francis
Pope Francis was laid to rest in a historic funeral at St. Peter’s Square, where an estimated 250,000 mourners gathered to pay their final respects. The ceremony was attended by presidents, royalty, and religious leaders from over 150 countries, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The funeral Mass was led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, who praised Pope Francis for his compassion and dedication to the poor. In a break from tradition, he was buried at St. Mary Major Basilica, rather than within the Vatican, fulfilling his wish for a humble resting place.
