Selection Sunday is just over a week away, and the coaching carousel is starting for college basketball. Some conferences are playing their tournament this weekend.
One basketball coach with four appearances in the NCAA Tournament is stepping away from a program after two losing seasons in a row.
College Basketball: Steve Prohm is stepping down

Per ESPN‘s Pete Thamel, Steve Prohm chose to step down from the Murray State basketball program following the Racer’s 70-62 loss to Bradley in the quarterfinal round of the MVC Tournament at the Enterprise Center on Friday night.
“Sources: Murray State coach Steve Prohm is stepping down and will not return next year,” Thamel posted on X. “They have not finished higher than sixth in the Missouri Valley in his three seasons since returning to the school. They’ve had losing records in conference in the last two years.”

Prohm led Murray State to the Round of 32 in 2012. his first season as head coach. Prohm led the Racers to a 2014 CIT Championship in his third season.
Prohm left Murray State to take the Iowa State head coach opening in 2015. He led the Cyclones to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2016 and made two other NCAA Tournament appearances with Iowa State. He returned to Murray State in 2022.
Murray State basketball is looking to return to the NCAA Tournament

Prohm went 17-15 in 2022-23. However, the Racers went 12-20 last season and finished 16-17 this season. He leaves Murray State with a 149-81 record with the program and is 246-176 as a head coach.
Per Thamel, the Racers intend to seek a national coach to find their next head coach.
“Murray State is set to launch a national search for Prohm’s replacement,” Thamel wrote. “Per ESPN sources, they are atop the Missouri Valley conference in roster resources and plan to add to those resources for 2025-26.”
Murray State has made 18 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, their last coming in 2022. They’ve made it as far as the Round of 32 seven times, their last appearance was also in 2022.
