The 2024 WNBA season marked a breakout year for rookies, and Rickea Jackson was one of the brightest standouts. Selected fourth overall by the Los Angeles Sparks, Jackson made an immediate impact and earned a well-deserved spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team.
The 6’2” forward quickly proved she belonged in the league, becoming a key piece of the Sparks’ offense. Now, heading into her second year, Rickea Jackson is primed to take the next leap — and she’s getting major reinforcements. Two-time WNBA champion Kelsey Plum has signed with the Sparks, bringing both firepower and leadership from her championship run with the Las Vegas Aces.
In an interview with The Sporting Tribe on Tuesday, Jackson expressed her excitement about teaming up with Plum. “I’m so excited to play with her,” Jackson said. “If anything, she was saying it takes pressure off me. She was like, ‘Girl, I’m gonna get you so many threes!’ She has such a smart basketball mind… I feel like it’s only going to help my game. She’s amazing. I love her.”

Having a high-IQ veteran like Plum by her side doesn’t just ease the scoring load — it gives Rickea Jackson the space to grow and refine her game. The experience Plum brings to the Sparks locker room could prove invaluable for a young player still navigating her way in the league.

Sparks’ struggles last season took its toll on Rickea Jackson’s mental health
Last season, the Sparks finished at the bottom of the WNBA standings — a tough reality for Rickea Jackson despite her personal success. She averaged 13.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, but the team’s struggles took a toll on her mentally.
“I’m not gonna lie. In the beginning, it took a mental toll on me in the sense that I want to win,” Rickea Jackson admitted. “But as I went on, I accepted things for what they are… not letting the wins or losses consume my mood. I just did what I could and got better.”

With new head coach Lynne Roberts now leading the rebuild and key pieces like Plum joining the fold, Rickea Jackson enters her sophomore season with higher expectations — and a chance to be at the heart of the Sparks’ turnaround.
