The college basketball NCAA Tournament first round is set to start on Thursday. One team that made it to the tournament but lost in the First Four is expected to part ways with its coach after a disappointing finish to the season.
Several basketball programs fired head coaches last week during and after conference tournament play. However, coaches are typically safe when they make the NCAA Tournament.
Rodney Terry and his Texas Longhorns team were fortunate to make the tournament with a 19-15 record. On Wednesday night, the Longhorns blew a double-digit second-half lead to Xavier, falling 86-80 to the Musketeers in front of 12,546 fans at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio.
College Basketball: Texas set to part with Rodney Terry

Per Chip Brown with Horns247, Texas is “expected” to part ways with Terry following the loss to Xavier on Wednesday night.
“As I reported in the @Horns247 Insider last Thursday, without a run in the NCAA Tournament, Texas basketball coach Rodney Terry wouldn’t be retained,” Brown posted on X. “Sources tell @Horns247 Terry is expected to be let go after three seasons on the job after taking over for Chris Beard.”

Terry led Texas to an Elite Eight appearance

Terry was an assistant coach under Chirs Beard at Texas starting in 2021. He was promoted to interim head coach during the 2022-23 season following Beard’s arrest.
Terry would lead that team to an appearance in the Elite Eight. Texas made it to the Round of 32 last season.
Terry went 62-37 during his time as head coach at Texas. He’s 225-193 as a head coach. Terry was the head coach at Fresno State (2011-2018) and UTEP. (2018-2021).
