New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu and football center Hronis Grasu got married on March 10 in Laguna Beach, California. It was an intimate wedding ceremony with the couple’s family and friends in attendance.
Months before the wedding, in an interview with the New York Post in September last year, Ionescu was all cool without any signs of panicking when discussing her wedding plans with Grasu.
“Well, I haven’t done any yet,” said Ionescu about her wedding plans. “I’d say we’re both a little busy. I’m a little bit of a procrastinator, so there’s that.”
There was a lot going on in the life of the three-time WNBA All-Star at the time. Nike released her Sabrina 1 signature shoe as she was bracing to help the Liberty win their first-ever WNBA title. While the shoe launch proved successful, it didn’t carry over to Ionescu’s championship quest, as the Liberty fell to the Las Vegas Aces in the finals, 3-1.
Meanwhile, Grasu had signed with the Las Vegas Raiders and was busy with his NFL schedule around that time. Due to their respective work schedules and devotion to their respective sports, there was a valid reason for them to put their wedding plans on hold.
“So, it was just [timing],” explained Sabrina Ionescu in the September 2023 interview with the New York Post. “It had to be within our off-seasons. We have an idea of what we want and how everything should look and what we’ll need. It’s still a couple months away and we’ll get everything rolling, but I haven’t had too much time to devote to that side of it just yet.”
Eventually, everything turned out for the better when the couple got married in a stunning wedding ceremony earlier this year. Then, the Liberty star fulfilled her dream of becoming a WNBA champion when the Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx 3-2 in the WNBA Finals this year, claiming their first-ever title.
