De’Aaron Fox has the NBA world buzzing over his after-practice interview about the recent release of his former head coach Mike Brown. Brown was let go through half the season, and it drew a lot of criticism from other organizations. The current Nuggets head coach Mike Malone even chimed in on the firing and stated that the Sacramento Kings front office had “No Class” for releasing a former head coach of the year in Mike Brown and all their recent success in the previous years.
Mike Brown’s Firing: A Surprising Turn For The Kings
The Sacramento Kings made headlines on December 27th, 2024, firing Mike Brown Halfway through the season. This decision came after a disappointing 13-18 regular season start, following a five-game losing streak. The narrow 114-113 loss to the up-and-coming Detroit Pistons really drove the decision from the Kings Head office. Even though he the Kings to a historic playoff berth in 2023, Brown faced a lot of pressure as the team slid to 12th in the Western Conference standings.
De’Aaron Fox Reacts To The Firing Of Mike Brown
A Media member asked Fox his immediate reaction 24 hours after the firing.
Fox said:
“I mean it’s a little surprising, I found out a minute before every else did so…”
He also said:
“I have been through a coaching change before, for some of the other guys it’s their first time. I mean you got to keep moving. I think we are at game 32, so we still have a long season to go”
These comments are your typical answers to news like this, but the interview got interesting when he was asked
‘As a player when something happens like this, any pressure or guilt you feel?’
He responded:
“I mean obviously you know, we all know the job that we have. You can be traded at any point, released, cut, fired, whatever it may be. I wouldn’t use the word ‘Guilt’. That’s the nature of the job that we have. Obviously, with him signing his extension this summer, we felt like we’d be together for a whole lot longer but, that’s the decision that they made. At the end of the day too, he’s still getting paid, the great part of being an NBA player and NBA coach. Those things can happen, but the contracts are guaranteed so…”

Sacramento Kings Fans Speculate On Fox’s Response
After this recent interview, Kings fans were not happy with Fox’s ‘disingenuous’ response and even hinted that Fox may have been at the forefront of getting Mike Brown canned from his Head Coaching duties. Although this is not factual, it raises alerts to fans whether he was happy with the direction the team was going in and wants to feel a fresh start with a new coach.
Former Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams spilled some insider information on the Kings. He went on to say that the front office had to decide whether to stick with the current roster, or keep the former Coach Of The Year, and Mike Brown got the short end. Fox then responded – saying it was nothing but ‘Bullsh**’. It is yet to be determined if Fox is the main cause for this coaching change, but the team is looking for a spark to make a strong push into the playoffs.
