DeMar DeRozan moving to the Sacramento Kings may be surprising to some, but it’s something that the organization has long waited for in their pursuit of NBA glory.
The team is already doing everything possible to make the talented guard feel welcomed back on the West Coast. The owner even went a step further and incorporated a little Kendrick Lamar in his welcoming message.
Of course, the warm weather isn’t the only reason DeMar chose SacTown instead of any other teams interested in his services. The team has a good shot of making a deep postseason run with De’Aaaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis at their core. He also knows he can count on them to have his back as Fox is already defending him from detractors.
But aside from the possibility of finally winning an NBA championship, there’s one more thing DeRozan is excited about when it comes to playing for the Kings.
DeMar DeRozan wants to light the Sacramento Kings’ beam
Like everyone else in the NBA, DeRozan is fascinated with the beam that gets lit up whenever the team wins. He disclosed that he definitely wants to be a part of the festivities when next season comes around.
Per NBC Sports Bay Area’s Tristi Rodriguez:
“How many times I’ve seen that beam lit up when I was chilling at home,” DeRozan said Tuesday during his introductory press conference in Sacramento. “Especially being on Central Time. I watch every NBA game. So you would just always see something lit up. It’s like, ‘What’s the significance of pushing this button?’ But like I said, winning solves all.
He also talks ball, where he expressed his eagerness to play in a tough Western Conference with a team that can make an unlikely fairy-tale run:
“I love it,” DeRozan said. “I love the challenge. I love the excitement that comes with it. When you’re a competitor, you want to be the best with where the best is at. The Western Conference is stacked. You get tested every single night. You work for those moments so it can bring the best out of you.
“So I’m overly looking forward to it. I can’t wait. I’m excited. It’s going to be fun.”
Will DeRozan make a huge impact with the Kings?
DeMar DeRozan may not be the biggest name who moved this offseason, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a great pickup for the Kings.
In his last season for the Bulls, DeRozan averaged 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists on 48.0% shooting and 33.3% from deep.
DeRozan will be a great option for the Sacramento Kings whenever Fox or Sabonis aren’t making their shots. He might be the missing piece the Kings needed to go the distance in the playoffs.
