Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan raised eyebrows when he made a cameo in the “Not Like Us’ music video because of his friendship with Drake, who is currently at odds with Kendrick Lamar.
Because of this, many wondered whether DeMar DeRozan and Drake are still on good terms, and the Sacramento Kings veteran said he still considers the Grammy-winning-rapper a good friend of his.
“Drake’s still my man, still my man, none of it changed. It’s so easy to get overlooked and look at it for what it looks like, but at the end of the day it’s music, entertainment,” DeRozan said in his exclusive interview with The Sacramento Bee’s Jason Anderson.
“Two of the biggest rappers in the world went at it from a competitive standpoint and they battled it out. That’s what you want to see as a fan: Kobe (Bryant) playing (Michael) Jordan 1-on-1 and see who wins, see the trash talking, and whoever wins out of that, you’re still going to have the debate, so that’s all that is,” he emphasized.
DeMar DeRozan and Drake go way back since his days playing for the Toronto Raptors. The six-time NBA All-Star is also friends with Kendrick Lamar because they both hail from Compton, California.
DeMar DeRozan is happy to be “at home” with the Sacramento Kings
DeMar DeRozan recently joined the Sacramento Kings via a three-team sign-and-trade deal which also saw Harrison Barnes go to the San Antonio Spurs, and his former team, the Chicago Bulls, received Chris Duarte and two second-round picks.
The 34-year-old said he is excited about his new opportunity because he joins a solid core of De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray, and Malik Monk.
“You never know where the road’s going to lead you until you get there, and this is definitely one of those moments to where you can’t guess it. You can never guess it, but you’ve got to embrace it and enjoy the journey of it all,” DeRozan said.
