Sacramento Kings fans are having a blast in this year’s offseason. While they fell short of making the playoffs last season, everyone knows that the Kings have a solid core of players who can compete with the best of the Western Conference.
All they needed was another scorer who can expand their attacking options, which they got in DeMar DeRozan. The veteran scorer thrives in the midrange, which allows De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis to execute without worrying about defenses locking in on them.
They also got Devin Carter, an exciting rookie who will beef up the rotation. The 13th pick of the 2024 Draft is coming in with expectations to make an impact with his scoring.
However, he may have to wait a bit before he experiences any meaningful NBA minutes as he’s going under the knife to fix a nasty injury he picked up before the Summer League even started.
Sacramento Kings’ Devin Carter to undergo shoulder surgery and is expected to miss the start of the season
NBC Sports’ Kurt Helin reported an update many Kings fans wish they didn’t have to see:
Carter is expected to undergo shoulder surgery next week, a story broken by Shams Charania of The Athletic and confirmed by multiple other reports. There aren’t many details on exactly what the surgery is for — Charania reported it’s similar to what Kevin Huerter went through last season — but reports are consistent that Carter is expected to miss the start of the season but will make a full recovery.
While there’s no clear indication if the affected shoulder is on his shooting arm, it’s enough to cause plenty of concern to Sacramento fans who hoped to see their prize youngster show what they can look forward to in the coming campaign.
While the Providence product isn’t expected to make a roaring start to his NBA career, his missing out on preseason preparations will have an enormous effect on his performance during his rookie season.
He finished his final season with the Friars with impressive averages of 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.8 steals on 47.3% shooting and 37.7% from deep. He’s expected to get game time whenever Fox is on the bench.
Sacramento Kings fans hope this injury doesn’t completely ruin Carter’s mechanic and allow him to have a productive debut season with the team.
