Doug Christie has come a long way in his NBA career. After playing for the Sacramento Kings from 2000 to 2005 and serving as an assistant since 2021, Christie officially became the team’s head coach after finalizing a multi-year contract, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Christie took over as interim head coach in late December when the Sacramento Kings fired Mike Brown. The team went 27-24 with Christie and eventually finished with a 40-42 record, good for ninth in the Western Conference.
Unfortunately for the Sacramento Kings, they would come up short in the play-in tournament, losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the ninth vs. 10th matchup.

Before making Christie the full-time head coach, the Sacramento Kings parted ways with Monte McNair and hired longtime NBA executive Scott Perry as their new general manager.
Sacramento Kings fans have mixed reactions to Doug Christie’s promotion
Sacramento Kings fans are tepid with Doug Christie’s promotion to full-time head coach. While some applauded Christie for his full-circle moment, some believe the team will stay mediocre with him in charge.

“Great. Now get out of his way and let him grow as a coach. We have a chance to make a Sacramento great a long-term coach and the fans love him. If we can beef up with support staff, that’ll be nice,” a fan said on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Very good hire for Sacramento. He can restore the culture there.”
“Oh god they back to poverty lmfao.”
“He was really bad. Constantly out coached even by the lower tier of nba coaches. Typical kings move though,” another fan chimed in.
