Former Sacramento Kings guard Mike Bibby recently appeared on The OGs podcast with Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller to discuss various basketball topics.
Midway through the episode, the 14-year NBA veteran requested to have his No. 10 jersey retired by the Sacramento Kings.
“I’m trying to get back in there and try to get around and stay around,” Bibby said. “I’m trying to get my number retired in Sacramento if they see this. (Domantas) Sabonis just had the number, but he switched this year he gonna wear number 11, so I hope that translates to something else.”
Mike Bibby was a key player for the Sacramento Kings when they were legitimate contenders in the Western Conference during the early 2000s. They took on the Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal-led Los Angeles Lakers from 2000 to 2002 in the Western Conference playoffs but lost to them every single time.
“They were probably the best fans that I ever played in front of,” Bibby said about playing for Sacramento. “It was just so easy to play there, The fans made me feel like I played there 20 years.”
After his seven-year stint in Sactown, Mike Bibby played four more years with the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat, and the New York Knicks. He finished his 14-year NBA career with averages of 14.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game on 43.6 percent shooting from the field.
