Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown received a $35,000 fine from the league for “aggressively pursuing” a referee during the team’s defeat against the Brooklyn Nets last Sunday.
During a recent press conference, Mike Brown explained what went through his mind during the incident. The two-time NBA Coach of the Year winner said he was irate when the referees didn’t call a foul on a Colby Jones drive in the second period.
“I thought Colby got hit going to the rim,” Brown told reporters via NBC Sports’ Taylor Wirth. “I just wanted to show our guys that, ‘Hey, we all need to fight.’ I’m (going to) try to fight, you guys try to fight and see if we can find a way to get ourselves into the game and, you know, if we’re going to go down, we’re going to go down swinging.”
Mike Brown was given a tech shortly after his outburst, and he charged toward referee Scott Twardoski, warranting a second tech and an ejection.
Brown’s ejection gave the Sacramento Kings a little spark, as they cut the deficit to single digits before halftime. However, the team ultimately fell short against Brooklyn.
Sacramento Kings are on a slump
Brown’s emotions got the better of him, and it’s hard to blame him because the Sacramento Kings are on a four-game losing streak. They now sit at 8-10 heading into Wednesday’s away game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After losing to the Brooklyn Nets, the Sacramento Kings suffered a 130-109 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder, despite DeMar DeRozan’s 30-point explosion.
Sacramento didn’t only lose that game because DeRozan hurt his back again, and Trey Lyles suffered a strained right calf, so he’ll be out for at least three weeks.
