The Sacramento Kings are fighting for a ticket to the 2025 NBA Playoffs. They are currently outside of the top six in the Western Conference standings but inside the Play-in Tournament picture iwth a 33-31 record.
This coming Thursday, they will look to end a two-game slump against the streaking Golden State Warriors, a game that’s generating more interest because of the potential return of Jonathan Kuminga to action after a long absence on the Dubs lineup. Kuminga has not stepped on the court since a Jan. 4 win at Chase Center in San Francisco over the Memphis Grizzlies because of an ankle problem.
But Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that the 22-year-old forward is on track to see action versus the Kings.
“Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is trending toward a return on Thursday night against the Sacramento Kings, team sources told The Athletic. Kuminga has missed the Warriors’ previous 31 games because of a significant right ankle sprain suffered in early January, but that absence is expected to end as the surging Warriors (37-28) gear up for a playoff push.”
This also means that the Kings could be the first team to deal with a Warriors lineup that features both Kuminga and Jimmy Butler, who was acquired by Golden State via a trade with the Miami Heat just before the deadline in early February.

Sacramento Kings aim to prevent a three-game losing skid

The Kings suffered a 111-110 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers last Sunday before getting crushed by the New York Knicks at home on Monday, 133-104. But with two days of rest, Sacramento hopes that it will be able to trip the Warriors, who are on a five-game undefeated run.
So far in the 2024-25 NBA season, the Warriors are averaging 116.6 points on 47.7 percent shooting from the field. They are 2-1 this season versus Golden State, but both of those wins came before the trade deadline.
