Even if they already got DeMar DeRozan, the Sacramento Kings look far from done in this summer’s free agency, as they are reportedly looking to get at least one more marquee player if recent reports are to be believed.
According to ESPN’s James Ham, the Sacramento Kings are particularly looking to get more firepower to bolster their chances of contending in the tough Western Conference.
“According to league sources, the Kings are still working the phones looking for at least one more piece to put them to put them over the top,” Ham wrote in his latest column.
“The targets are the same as they have been for the last week, with both Kyle Kuzma and Lauri Markkanen high on their list. With DeMar DeRozan locked in, the team now has clarity on their assets and where they stand salary-wise,” he added.
After missing out on the playoffs last season, the Sacramento Kings are wasting no time bringing more weapons to De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, hoping to make it back again next year.
What will it take for the Sacramento Kings to get Lauri Markkanen, Kyle Kuzma?
Anthony Slater of The Athletic revealed that the Sacramento Kings “protected” Keegan Murray in a potential Lauri Markkanen trade with the Utah Jazz that would’ve also included a bunch of draft picks.
Murray, who averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game on 45.4 percent shooting in his sophomore NBA season in 2023-24, was coveted by the Utah Jazz. However, the Sacramento Kings aren’t keen on giving him up because of his potential.
The Washington Wizards also have a similar asking price for Kyle Kuzma. According to Sean Ackerman of Sports Illustrated, Washington wants at least two first-round picks in return for the one-time NBA champion. Kevin Huerter could be involved in a potential trade to match salaries.
