The Sacramento Kings may just need one more piece before they can seriously contend for a ring. If they’re prepared to go all-in, they might want to consider pursuing All-Star Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat.
The Kings have managed to turn things around when they sent Tyrese Haliburton for All-Star big man Domantas Sabonis in 2022. While initially perceived as a move that won’t yield any results, the following season proved otherwise.
During the 2022-23 campaign, Sacramento finished the regular season third in the Western Conference with 48 wins and 34 losses. Headed by franchise player De’Aaron Fox, the Kings were able to field a top-ranked offense out of 30 teams, while their defense was in 25th place. Even if that’s the case, the team was able to surpass expectations and reach the playoffs.
Unfortunately, the Kings faced a more experienced Golden State Warriors team led by four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry. They found themselves exiting the playoffs in the first round in a thrilling seven-game series. This season, they also failed to make the postseason when the New Orleans Pelicans eliminated Sacramento in the Play-In Tournament.
Sacramento Kings Receive Jimmy Butler From Miami Heat in Crazy Trade Proposal
The Kings’ recent attempt to make the playoffs have shown they still need one more piece to seriously compete. As it stands, Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler may be that guy, as explained in an article by Zach Buckley for Bleacher Report.
“While the Heat could not sound less interested in a Butler blockbuster, perhaps a few anxious rounds of extension negotiations could change that. Between his lengthy injury history and his upcoming 35th birthday, he won’t necessarily just be handed a blank check. But if Miami tries pinching pennies on a new deal, maybe Butler will decide that it’s time for him to move on.
He isn’t quite a perfect schematic fit in Sacramento, as he’s a low-volume, low-efficiency three-point shooter. Still, the Kings could use his tenacity as a tone-setter, not to mention his big-stage savvy, defensive versatility and secondary scoring and shot-creation,” Buckley wrote.
Although Butler isn’t the lights-out shooter who can space the floor for Sacramento, his grit and competitive nature may mean more for the Kings if they want to reach the next level. With him holding everyone accountable, there may be a way for him to bring Heat Culture to the Kings.
It remains to be seen whether Butler will stay in Miami or get moved in the offseason. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on the All-Star in the coming weeks.
