Imagine a Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox tandem? The San Antonio Spurs will not let go of the prized no. 1 pick so it will be the Sacramento Kings guard moving to Texas.
It is not that hard to imagine. In fact, some people behind the scenes are already making moves, mostly from the Spurs.
It does not help for the Kings supporters that their team is not accomplishing anything lately while De’Aaron Fox is putting up All-Star numbers.
Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that the Spurs, along with many other teams, are looking at the situation of Fox who declined a $165 million extension. It is San Antonio, however, that is at the forefront.
“Meanwhile, rival executives are monitoring the Fox situation closely and league sources say one team in particular — the San Antonio Spurs — is positioning itself to pursue the Houston native as a possible partner for Victor Wembanyama, should Fox become available,” Amick and Anthony Slater wrote Saturday.
What will stop this from happening?
The two sports writers theorized: “Barring a significant Kings turnaround, others are surely close behind.”
Can De’Aaron Fox, Kings make the playoffs?
Fox has been great for the Kings, steering them to their first playoff appearance in 16 seasons in the 2022-2023 season.
He had help, of course, most notably Domantas Sabonis who went to All-Star Game in 2023.
Many thought they will become regulars in the playoffs, especially with the way they made it hard for Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
They came to the 2024-2025 season with higher expectations as they acquired DeMar Derozan via a trade with the Chicago Bulls.
However, nothing great is happening yet for them. They are currently 13-17 and are outside of the Top 12.
Fox has said that the wants to retire with the Sacramento Kings but he wants to play for a winning team.
“I want to make sure that we’re in a position to try to win in the future because that’s ultimately what I want to do.”
Clock is ticking for the Kings.
