San Antonio Spurs: Analyst Reveals 1 Surprising Possibility About Chris Paul’s Turn as a Spur

The peak years of the San Antonio Spurs were supposed to be years away, so many found Chris Paul’s decision to sign with Gregg Popovich and don the Silver and Black.

Paul is a very competitive athlete. Even if he did fall in love with the culture the Spurs have developed under Popovich’s tutelage, it would be impossible to think of Paul officially giving up on winning the elusive ring when he’s still playing at 39 years old.

However, one analyst explains that there’s one thing aside from the prospect of playing under the famed Spurs culture that convinced Paul to make the move to San Antonio.

Analyst believes the possibility of starting for the San Antonio Spurs convinced Chris Paul to sign

Chris Haynes was in regular contact with Cp3 and discussed the finer details of his decision to move to the Spurs. He then explained that the possibility of becoming a starter again is what motivated Paul to choose San Antonio out of any other team that made a move for him.

The Dunk Central’s Caleb Gebrewold wrote on Hayne’s explanation:

I spoke to Chris Paul. He’s very eager and motivated for this opportunity to return to a starting role. He still believes that he’s a starter. He still believes he can play at an elite level. And he’s excited about the chance to pair up with Wembanyama.

He said him and Gregg Popovich had a really good talk today and Pop just sold him on the culture and what they were trying to do. You’re going to get a really inspired and motivated Chris Paul at this stage of his career. He wants to show and prove to people that he still has it.

Chris Paul didn’t have the best numbers during his lone year as a rotation piece for the Golden State Warriors. He averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.8 assists a game in the 58 games he played behind Stephen Curry.

There aren’t any point guards in the San Antonio Spurs roster better than Paul, so he has a definite chance of cracking the starting lineup this season.

Whether this turns into a golden chance for an NBA title remains to be seen.
