One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. This perfectly sums up the San Antonio Spurs’ sensational swoop on 12-time All-Star point guard Chris Paul shortly after the 39-year-old was waived by the Golden State Warriors.
The Spurs have another new point guard in town, and this time, they’ve added a tested veteran to pair alongside Victor Wembanyama.
San Antonio Spurs Land Chris Paul
It was ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski who broke the news on Sunday night:
“Free agent guard Chris Paul has agreed on a one-year, $11 million-plus deal with the San Antonio Spurs, sources tell ESPN,” Woj reported on X, formerly Twitter.
That didn’t take long. This massive development comes just hours after the Warriors officially waived Paul’s $30 million contract for 2024-25.
This only speaks volumes of how much value CP3 still brings to the table despite the fact that he’s now pushing 40. Apart from still being one of the most skilled playmakers in the NBA, the wealth of experience Paul has under his belt should be extremely beneficial for Wembanyama and the Spurs’ young core.
This move has to be marked as a huge win for San Antonio.
The Spurs recently drafted their point guard of the future by scooping up Stephon Castle as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old is expected to make an immediate impact on the team, and the arrival of Paul should only help the former Connecticut superstar’s transition in the NBA.
At this point, the future is looking even brighter for San Antonio.
