San Antonio Spurs news: The NBA announced the 2023-24 All-Defensive teams on Tuesday, and it came as no surprise that Victor Wembanyama was named as part of the first team. The 20-year-old was a shoo-in for a spot in the first team after being named a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year title.

Now that it’s official, Wemby has achieved yet another NBA milestone in his fledgling career — one that we have never witnessed in the history of the league.

For the first time ever, a rookie has been voted into the All-Defensive first team. This is yet another never-before-seen achievement by Wembanyama after a truly captivating debut campaign with the Spurs.

Joining Wemby on the first team are Defensive Player of the Year winner Rudy Gobert, Bam Adebayo, Anthony Davis, and another first-timer in Herb Jones.

This is another incredible feat by Wembanyama, which is going to be one of just many records this young man is set out to make in the not-so-distant future. If his first season in the NBA is any indication of what we should expect from the French phenom, then the basketball world could be on the brink of witnessing a career unlike any other we’ve seen in the past.

There’s also no denying, however, that Wemby can’t do it alone — not in today’s NBA. The fact that San Antonio won just 22 games this past season is a clear testament to this fact. The Spurs will need to work diligently in surrounding their cornerstone superstar with the necessary talent he needs to take this team to glory.
