The San Antonio Spurs‘ rookie guard, Stephon Castle, is no exception from rookie hazing. On Wednesday, he was the subject of a prank from his team. The players involved in the tradition took advantage of Castle’s parked car. While most NBA pranks that involve a car result in it being filled with popcorn, the Spurs went a different direction this time.
The Spurs removed the wheels off Castle’s white sportscar. It wasn’t a simple prank where one or two wheels were taken off. All four tires were gone as the veterans on the team watched Castle approach the parked vehicle.

Spurs’ guard Devin Vassell filmed the moment and posted it on his Instagram story.

All-Star De’Aaron Fox later disclosed that Castle is exempt from the typical rookie responsibilities that other players must perform. Even those who went on to become the league’s best players had to do something for their more seasoned colleagues. They all had to do it, whether it was purchasing donuts for the squad, singing a song in front of the home fans, or carrying a feminine school bag.
“Steph doesn’t do anything. He doesn’t do any rookie duties, which is crazy to me,” Fox said.

Castle has been one of the best young stars in the league. In the recent Kia Rookie of the Year Ladder, the Spurs guard is at the top, averaging 13.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists. With how he’s playing for the Spurs, he has the potential to form a formidable trio with Fox and Victor Wembanyama.
De’Aaron Fox has been a positive force for the San Antonio Spurs

Fox has played well since getting traded to the San Antonio Spurs. He’s played 16 games for his new team, averaging 18.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists. While his performance has not resulted in wins for the Spurs, he’s gradually being incorporated into the system as one of the next leaders.
“I think that’s a good part about me, especially… you know, basically coming into my prime now, I’m able to go out there and affect the game with my play, but also try to do with my voice, and as far as teaching and those things, I think it’s a great group of guys, and everybody’s listening,” the one-time All-Star said.

Additionally, his teammates already believe in what he can do. Forward Jeremy Sochan spoke highly of how much he’s enjoyed having Fox as his teammate.
“You can already tell he’s going to be special for this team. The way he plays, the speed, just the calmness as well, with the speed, which you rarely see. I think he’s going to help a lot.”
