The San Antonio Spurs have lost a total of 120 games since the 2022-23 NBA season, but they intend to be a contender as soon as the 2025-26 campaign, according to ESPN NBA Draft analyst Jonathan Givony
“Everything I hear is that they want to be competitive next year, they want to be in the playoffs. They’re not looking to make this a 2-3 year process, where they’re in the lottery again next year. For right now, they want to be competitive next year and that’s why I think they’re going to be aggressive with those picks,” Givony said during a recent appearance on The Ringer’s NBA Draft Show (h/t BasketNews).
The other San Antonio Spurs ‘untouchable’ asset

The 2024 offseason will be an interesting – and important – one for the Spurs, as they look to reclaim their lost glory in the NBA. Victor Wembanyama is undoubtedly going to be part of the Spurs’ future. A talent like him is deemed untouchable, but that also seems to be how the Spurs also view his teammate, Devin Vassell.
“I’ve heard nobody in the roster is untouchable except Victor [Wembanyama] and Devin Vassell,” Givony said.
Vassell could be generating some trade interest after another solid campaign with the Spurs. This season, he averaged a career-high 19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 47.2 percent from the field. His name even appeared on the Most Improved Player ballot, finishing 12th in the voting.

Vassell has five more years remaining on his extension contract that he signed for $135 million back in 2023 with the Spurs.
