San Antonio Spurs: ESPN Expert Shares Jaw-Dropping Suggestion in Latest 2025 Mock Draft

The San Antonio Spurs have a bevy of options on what to do with the second overall pick of this summer’s NBA Draft. They can use the pick to get another young and impactful player or as trade bait to get a proven star.

As of now, many expect the San Antonio Spurs to take Dylan Harper with the second overall pick, and ESPN draft expert Jonathan Givony proposes that the team select Kon Knueppel from Duke with the 14th overall pick.

“Surrounding Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and De’Aaron Fox with high-feel, dynamic perimeter shooters is a major priority for the front office this offseason, and no player in this draft fits that bit better than Knueppel,” Givony wrote in his column.

“He’s the draft’s best shooter, capable of shooting off movement coming off screens, but also is a solid defender and playmaker who plays a selfless, highly competitive style. He was happy to play second fiddle to Flagg, his teammate and rising superstar this season, making him an ideal fit to pair with a future MVP contender such as Wembanyama,” he added.

San Antonio Spurs Rumors: Insider urges team to consider trading down

NBA insider Kevin O’Connor recently floated the idea of the San Antonio Spurs trading their second overall pick to get more assets while keeping the 14th overall pick.

“Teams like the Jazz, Wizards, Pelicans, and Nets all need initiators. Maybe one of them would offer a haul to move up for Harper. Looking at the history of trade downs, usually a team would give up their own first and one future first. But considering Harper’s upside, perhaps the Spurs could haggle for much more,” O’Connor wrote.

“The Nets, holding the No. 8 pick and a mountain of future firsts plus Cam Johnson, are the most interesting trade partner,” he continued. “Harper is a local kid with star potential, and the Nets have a clean slate he could grow with. If the Spurs want to pivot toward shooting, Johnson plus picks is a logical foundation.”
