San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama just gained a new fan in Patrick Beverley as the former NBA veteran dropped a bold claim about the Frenchman in the latest episode of the Pat Bev Pod.
Patrick Beverley was asked to name his Top 5 centers in the league and listed Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, Bam Adebayo, and Ivica Zubac. Podcast co-host Adam Ferrone didn’t get why Patrick Beverley left out Victor Wembanyama, so the Hapoel Tel Aviv guard offered an eye-opening explanation.
“Victor Wembanyama is not a five,” Beverley said. “He’s everything. Like you can’t even put him in comparison to other people. He’s the best player in the NBA next year. Just because you’re 7’4″ don’t make you a center. It’s not a position for him. He’s positionless.”
While Victor Wembanyama is known mainly for his rim protection and finishing ability, the reigning Rookie of the Year can also put the ball on the floor well and stretch the opposing defense with his three-point shot.
In his debut NBA season, Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and a league-high 3.6 blocks in 71 regular season games.
Can Victor Wembanyama lead the San Antonio Spurs to more wins next season?
Despite having Victor Wembanyama on their roster, the San Antonio Spurs finished the 2023-24 season with a 22-60 record, good for 14th in the Western Conference.
With the addition of veterans Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes, the San Antonio Spurs hope they’ll help hasten the development of Victor Wembanyama.
But because of how stacked the Western Conference is right now, San Antonio faces an uphill climb to make it back to the playoffs this upcoming season.
