San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama just gained a new fan in Bob Cousy since the Boston Celtics legend recently compared him to Bill Russell.

“Tell him he will be the next Bill Russell and let him know that the first Frenchman in NBA history is watching him closely and with great attention,” Cousy said via Eurohoops.
Bob Cousy and Victor Wembanyama have a similar path to the United States. The six-time NBA champion was the only son of French immigrants before moving to New York.
Besides winning all six of his NBA titles with the Boston Celtics, Cousy was also a one-time NBA MVP, 13-time NBA All-Star, eight-time NBA assists leader, and a member of the NBA 25th, 35th, 50th, and 75th-anniversary teams, among others.

As for Wembanyama, he is preparing for his sophomore year with the San Antonio Spurs after he won Rookie of the Year last season.
Victor Wembanyama is destined for greatness with the San Antonio Spurs
The Bill Russell comparison for Victor Wembanyama is valid because of the latter’s uncanny ability to protect the rim. And what makes Wembanyama even better is that he can shoot from deep and make plays for his teammates.

During his rookie season, the Frenchman averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and a league-leading 3.6 blocks in 71 regular season games.
It also helps Victor Wembanyama that he has Gregg Popovich as his coach. And with the additions of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes, the San Antonio Spurs have put Wemby in a position to dominate.
