Scottie Barnes has played just 13 games out of 25 games by the Toronto Raptors but looks like he will miss some more after getting injured again in loss to the New York Knicks.
The 2022 Rookie of the Year is actually on a roll since coming back from a fractured orbital bone injury on November 21, having scored double digits in all of his nine games.
He already has 15 points against the Knicks but then the unimaginable happened as he landed on Karl Anthony Towns’ foot in the third quarter while trying to block the Knicks center’s shot from behind.
He landed awkwardly and was visibly in pain.
He even told the medical team attending to the him that “I can’t feel my foot”. He did not return to the game.
Barnes finished with 15 points in 22 minutes and had 5 rebounds and three assists.
The Raptors went on to lose the game which was still winnable for them until the last 30 seconds of the night.
RJ Barrett tried his best to wheel the Raptors to a victory against his form team with his 30 point but they just did not have enough against the victors whose starting 5 all scored in double digits.
Barrett rues the exit of Barnes.
“We were playing so well especially with Scottie on the floor… those are the ones you wish you get to win.”
Latest news on Scottie Barnes injury
Raptors can have a sigh of relief as the latest news revealed that it is not a grave concern. At least based on initial examinations.
Barnes sustained a sprained right ankle in the third quarter of Monday’s 113-108 loss to the Knicks, though X-rays came back negative and he’ll be re-evaluated Tuesday, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports. Barnes finished with 15 points (5-11 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and three assists across 23 minutes.
Coach Darko Rajakovic also told reporters that Barnes tweaked his ankle and that he will be re-evaluated again on Tuesday.
There are no words yet if he will miss the Thursday visit to the Miami Heat.
