Fiteen-time NBA All-Star Shaquille O’Neal once again touched on the topic of his beef and rivalry with eight-time NBA All-Star Dwight Howard and the boxing match between them that, while may be exciting to fans, may not happen anytime soon.
In one of the recent episodes of “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” retired heavyweight boxer Evander Holyfield graced the show and talked to Shaq about a wide range of things, including getting bitten by Mike Tyson during the infamous “Bite Fight,” and eventually, Shaq’s rival, Dwight Howard.
“I heard you trained one of my enemies,” Shaq said during the podcast. “I heard you trained Dwight Howard, is that true?”
“No,” Holyfield answered. “I was there with him, but no, I did not train him.”
“Okay, because he’s gonna need help.”
“My thing is why do you wait until I’m 53 before you challenge me, when I was 43?” Shaq added, referring to Howard’s most recent boxing match challenge to him just this year.
Shaq went on to say that while he may still be capable, he would definitely be more capable a decade ago.
“I’m sure I could do something, but I don’t have the same effect that I had when I was 43. Those are one of those I wish I was ten years younger.”
He added that he would only fight “true champions” like former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, saying that he would leave fans “to decipher what I mean.”
The beef between Shaw and Dwight Howard over the nickname Superman originated back at the 2008 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Howard, then playing for the Orlando Magic, wore a Superman cape for the event and made a dunk that earned him the nickname “Superman” from fans and the media.
Shaq, who had the nickname Superman and the “S” branding for most of his career, took the claim by Howard as an infringement on his personal brand.
Shaquille O’Neal is Not a Fan of NBA Teams Become “Three-Pointer Teams”
With issues of NBA viewership going down, Shaquille O’Neal had one thing in mind: people find games boring now because it became all about making three-point shots.
“It’s down because we’re looking at the same thing,” Shaq said. “Everybody is running the same plays. I don’t mind Golden State back in the day shooting threes, but every team isn’t a three-point shooter. So why does everybody have the same strategy? I think it makes the game boring.”
Shaquille O’Neal now spends his time as a host of the show “Inside The NBA,” outside of his own regular podcast.
