Inside the NBA is one of the most beloved basketball shows to exist. Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley, and Shaquille O’Neal have provided plenty of entertaining moments that helped it become must-watch TV for NBA fans.
However, the show may not be around for much longer. Its future is in doubt as its home network is likely ending the wildly popular show. Not only will this impending cancellation put its hosts out of a job, but it will also compromise the livelihood of the people running the program.
With such a future, some fans are already beginning to look fondly at how the show has become a beloved mainstay over the years. Shaq shares his thoughts on why the show has become such an iconic part of the NBA fan experience.
Shaquille O’Neal thinks Inside the NBA is loved because of the cast’s dynamics
The four-time NBA champion made an appearance at The Draymond Green Show to talk about various things in basketball career.
During the interview, he talked about the show and what made it a fun show to watch for its legions of fans. Fadeaway World’s Vishwesha Kumar detailed Shaq’s observations:
“I wanted to be the black Brian Gumbel and use big words and do all that. And TNT said, motherf***er, we’ll fire your a** tomorrow. And I think that’s what makes our show the best show out there.”
“G14 classification, Barkley Hall of Famer, Kenny two-time champion, Ernie, best analyst in the world. But you guys can be yourself. We crack jokes, we do a lot of stuff.”
There have been plenty of sports programs that are trying to do what the show has built over the years, but only a few can hold a candle to the level of camaraderie that the four have built over the years is one of the biggest reasons why the show is loved by so many.
Shaquille O’Neal and the rest of the crew can still find jobs even if the show is axed. However, fans will miss the on-screen friendships and basketball insight they provided in spades.
