Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders was in attendance at the New York Knicks’ 2024 Emirates NBA Cup quarterfinals match against the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden. The son of Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders was enthusiastically received with applause by the New York crowd when he appeared on the jumbotron.

Shedeur Sanders has been linked to the New York Giants, who are contending for the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Giants GM Joe Schoen has repeatedly met with Coach Prime and watched the Buffaloes’ practice sessions.
Unfortunately for the Knicks fans at MSG that night, Shedeur Sanders’ presence didn’t do anything to faze Trae Young and company as the Hawks got the 108-100 win. Proving to be the proverbial thorn in the Knicks’ side, Young tallied a double-double of 22 points and 11 assists.
Adding insult to injury, the Hawks’ point guard did some postgame shenanigans, shooting dice on the Knicks logo to celebrate going to Las Vegas as they advanced to the Emirates NBA Cup semifinals.

The Hawks will face the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday in hopes of moving to the tournament finals.
Shedeur Sanders talks about being inspired by Kyrie Irving
Shedeur Sanders shared his encounter with NBA Star Kyrie Irving. On his “2Legendary” podcast, the Buffaloes quarterback talked to his teammate, offensive lineman Kahlil Benson, about meeting Irving during the WNBA playoffs, saying that the Dallas Mavericks guard left a lasting impression on him.
“He has so much knowledge,” Sanders told Benson. “He’s done the majority of things I want to do in life, so, I feel like surrounding yourself with those types of people and getting knowledge and learning from them will save you a lot of time, save you a lot of money and save you a lot of mental stress.”
The quarterback expressed his excitement about bonding with Irving, calling it a “lifelong connection.”
Shedeur Sanders decided to forego the 2024 NFL Draft and instead play one more season of college football. His decision led the Buffaloes to a 9-3 campaign in the Big 12 and helped his team secure Bowl game eligibility for the first time since the 2020 season.
The Buffaloes QB is expected to join the 2025 NFL Draft set for April, where he is being projected as a potential first-round pick. He is also considered one of the league’s overall top prospects and among the best quarterbacks in his class.
