Quentin Grimes isn’t at the forefront of every Sixers news site for a good reason: Joel Embiid’s uncertain future amid his injury problems and Paul George’s disappointing first season in the City of Brotherly Love take precedence over the little steps the 24-year-old is taking in his career.
However, he’s slowly proving himself to be one of the more underrated acquisitions for the Sixers this season. The 6’5″ guard is putting together the best string of performances for Philly, putting up career highs in almost every statistical category.

While Grimes has been indispensable since joining the Sixers via trade, his most recent performance against a red-hot Warriors squad was the crown jewel of his season.
He revealed in a post-game interview what drove him to put up a great scoring performance against the best shooter the NBA has ever seen.
Quentin Grimes talks about his motivations behind his 44-point performance against the Golden State Warriors

Grimes’s 44-point outing against the Golden State Warriors quickly made the center page of many Sixers news pages for a good reason.
They were on a nine-game losing streak, while the Dubs were on a terrific run of form. While the Warriors weren’t the most dangerous team in the Western Conference, the confidence they have picked up since trading for Jimmy Butler made the game seem like a lost cause for pessimistic Philadelphia fans.
However, Grimes was just red-hot, leading the team to a memorable 119-126 victory. He made 75% of his 24 shot attempts. He was also lights out from beyond the three-point line, making nine of his six attempts.
He talked about his motivation behind the game, saying that he felt his team’s most recent loss against the New York Knicks could have been avoided if he asserted himself.
He also detailed what the game meant for him, as reported by ClutchPoints’ Sam DiGiovanni:
“It’s a big confidence boost,” Grimes said. “It was a lot of games that we were close and that we should have won, so I feel like with this game, it was a game that we had to come together collectively within the last two, three minutes of the game… We could have lost that game easily but we stuck together, stayed tough and that feels like a game that we can build on.”
Grimes is putting up an incredible season for the Sixers. He’s putting up 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks in the eight games he played for Nick Nurse’s squad.

While the Sixers will still likely be out of the playoff picture, the future looks bright for them. Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain, and Grimes look to be a promising trio the franchise can build around if they feel like they should move on from Joel Embiid.
