Sophie Cunningham, the latest Indiana Fever player, stepped into the team’s locker room for the very first time and captured her reaction in a now viral video. In the clip, Cunningham can be seen stepping cautiously and excitedly into the Indiana Fever locker room, while also seeing her team jersey for the first time.
Sophie Cunningham has been playing in the WNBA since 2013 when she was selected by the Phoenix Mercury as the 13th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft. After playing for the Mercury from 2019 to 2024, Cunningham was recently traded to the Indiana Fever and will make her debut for the team in this upcoming WNBA season.
“Oh gosh, this is the first time I’ve seen my jersey. I love this. It’s like I’m a rookie all over again.” Sophie Cunningham can be heard saying in the video clip released by the Indiana Fever Instagram handle.

Cunningham is not the only new player who will make their debut for the Indiana Fever this season. The team has clearly been busy this offseason, making a number of changes to their roster, like bringing in the likes of DeWanna Bonner, Sydney Colson and Natasha Howard. The main aim of bringing in these players will be to bulwark Caitlin Clark’s performance for the team.

Sophie Cunningham Reveals Joke Which Backfired On Her
Sophie Cunningham was also interviewed right outside the Indiana Fever training facility and was asked about her feelings on joining Caitlin Clark’s team. In the interview, Cunningham revealed a joke which badly backfired on her. During the WNBA All-Star game, the newest Indiana Fever player apparently jokingly asked Clark if she wanted to move to Phoenix and play for the Mercury.

However, fate had other plans as now Cunningham will be playing in Indiana alongside Clark for the Fever team. Cunningham also mentioned how excited she is to play as Caitlin Clark’s teammate. She also remarked that she will do everything in her power to help Clark on the court as she shines for the Indiana Fever.

The Indiana Fever will play their first ever game for the upcoming WNBA season on May 17th as they lock horns with the Chicago Sky. While Clark will play for the Indiana Fever, her staunch rival, Angel Reese will be seen playing for the Chicago Sky. This game is bound to be enthralling for WNBA fans and players who are excited to help their teams improve their records.
