The Christmas Day battle between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks got a little more interesting as the latter’s Josh Hart triggered supporters of the Texas team, which is not his fault.
The Spurs-Knicks game is the only cross-conference battle on that day and it could definitely use some storyline unlike the other match-ups.
The problem though is that the growing tension is kind of forced, mostly from the Spurs fans.
The Knicks forward is popularly playful on social media. He trolls even his own teammates. On Sunday, he riled up some San Antonio fans after he posted about the Spurs and calling them equivalent to poop by using an emoji.
The X post, which now has 4.1 million views, was swarmed right away from Spurs fans.
“Josh i don’t even think you would start for the spurs,” said one user.
“Rough times in San Antonio. 😬,” wrote another.
The truth about Josh Hart’s post
It is a classic case of misunderstanding. Or in the case of Americans, it is them not knowing that there are other sports league outside of the United States.
Hart is actually trolling England’s Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur which was trashed by Liverpool on Sunday, 3-6.
The Knicks player is not a fan of Liverpool either. The team that he supports is Chelsea, Tottenham’s London rivals.
His love for the Blues is well-documented. He in fact visited the club’s stadium once and spoke with enthusiasm about how he became a Chelsea fan.
“I liked Chelsea in high school, but a little more in college I got into it,’ Hart said as a guest for Chelsea Mike’d Up podcast in February this year.
“I used to watch England a lot – John Terry, Frank Lampard, they played for Chelsea so I went with Chelsea.”
So, it is a misunderstanding. But the Christmas Day game could really use some fuel.
