The college basketball NCAA Tournament has had a couple of notable upsets this year. The No. 12 seed McNeese State Cowboys upset the No. 5 Clemson Tigers on Thursday. The Cowboys would wind up losing on Saturday to the Purdue Boilermakers 76-62 in the first game in the Round of 32.
The second game of Saturday would have another big upset in the NCAA Tournament. Per ESPN BET, No. 2 St. John’s entered their contest against No. 10 Arkansas as 7.5-point favorites.
The Red Storm and Razorbacks matchup included two heavyweight names at head coach, with Rick Pitino coaching St. John’s and John Calipari leading Arkansas.
The Arkansas Razorbacks pulled off an upset

Arkansas took a 35-32 lead into halftime in front of 11,487 fans at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island. The Razorbacks led through the entire second half, holding off a late run by St. John’s that saw the score come within two points with 6:11 remaining in the game. Led by freshman Billy Richmond III’s 16 points off the bench, Arkansas defeated the SJU 75-66 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
With Pitino as their coach, St. John’s entered the tournament as a favorite to make the Final Four. However, the Big East Tournament champion was ousted by an SEC team that struggled for most of the season in Calipari’s first season in Fayetteville.
