Steph Curry is just among the most notable NBA players and legends who have taken golfing as a pastime. The Golden State Warrior has been seen participating in a number of golf tournaments, and he won the renowned celebrity golf competition, American Century Championship, last year.
New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson hit the golf course with teammate Josh Hart on Tuesday, and when asked to name the NBA’s three best golfers, Brunson readily named Curry as the number one golfer.
“I’m gonna say Steph, for sure,” Brunson said. “Everyone just knows Steph’s the GOAT, for sure. He can do no wrong.”
An avid golf fan, Curry played the game constantly during the NBA offseason, and even established his own league for underrepresented youth golfers. Last year, he also received the Charlie Stifford award for advancing diversity in golf.
Brunson had difficulty naming his number two, he turned to Hart by asking “who else golfs in the NBA” and picked Austin Reaves. He chose not to name a number three.
“Oh, Austin Reaves! Steph, Austin Reaves, and whoever you wanna put third,” the one-time All-Star said.
When the interviewer suggested he could put himself as number three, Brunson laughingly said, “Nah, don’t put me third.”
Steph Curry not the ‘best golfer,’ says Austin Reaves
Jalen Brunson sees Steph Curry as the clear-cut best golfer in the NBA today, but Austin Reaves has a different opinion. In fact, he proclaimed himself the league’s best golfer.
In his 2023 guest appearance on “The Lowe Podcast” with NBA insider Zach Lowe, the Los Angeles Laker pushed back on the fans’ consensus that Curry is the best golfer in the league. He even confidently said he could take on anyone in a golf match, including Curry and golf legend Tiger Woods.
“Hey, I’m down to play golf whenever, wherever against anybody,” Reaves said. “I love golf so much, I’d go play Tiger. Obviously, I don’t have any expectation of winning that one … but I would love to play against Steph.”
Reaves finished tied for 13th at this year’s American Century Championship, putting himself among the NBA’s top up-and-coming golfers. However, that alone isn’t enough to prove his claim of being better than Curry, who has already been a champion. He will need to add more to his golfing résumé before he can have the right to claim the crown of the NBA’s premier golfer.
