Stephen A. Smith is rooting for Donald Trump. The ESPN analyst has never been shy to let the public know not only his analysis and insights on sports but his political opinions as well. He started the recent election seasons as a vocal Democrat, even admitting he voted for Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris. However, the climate around Stephen A’s recent statements has changed as he started to criticize and call out the Democrats and started to express support and hope for the Republicans.
In one of his recent videos, Stephen A. called out to the Democratic party with a challenge. In that same video, he also challenged the Republicans, particularly President-elect Donald Trump, on the huge expectations he is carrying with him as he returns to office.
“If you’re Donald Trump, do you understand what times you have before you?” Stephen A. said. “This is an opportunity. You’ve never been in a position, in my lifetime, where you had so many different communities willing to embrace you and feel like you might embrace what their beliefs are, what they feel, what they think is in the best interest of this country.”
Stephen A. continued to express his support for the incoming administration, saying that he is “rooting for” Trump.
“I want everybody to know that I don’t root against any president and I’m not going to root against Donald Trump,” he said. “I’m going to root for him to be successful, so long as that success benefits everyone not just the constituency he may be inclined to cater to.”
Stephen A. Smith: “I Didn’t Vote for Donald Trump Because…”
In the same video, Stephen A. Smith opened up on why he chose to vote for Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris over Donald Trump of the Republicans—and it was not what one may expect. As per the ESPN analyst, his decision to lean towards the Democrats for his vote was about his perception of unity on Trump.
“I didn’t vote for [Donald Trump] because I thought he was a divisive force,” Stephen A. said. “He was somebody that would create a bigger divide rather than galvanize folks and bring folks together. I was incredibly worried leading up to the election that the race was going to be so tight that either he’d lose and claim he won as he did in 2020 and create all kinds of chaos that would serve to further divide this nation.”
