Stephen A. Smith, outside of his analysis and opinion on sports, has always been open about where he stands politically. However, he has recently given statements that led people to wonder if he is shifting from being more of a Democrat to being more of a Republican.
In an episode of the PBD Podcast, hosts Vincent Oshana and Thomas Ellsworth expressed their take on Stephen A. Smith, particularly about his recent outburst in one of his videos where he called out the Democrats for their “lies” and how these lies have led to Donald Trump winning the election.
“He sounds like a freaking Republican, and how about this: if he keeps talking like that I’m on the flip side, I’m thinking he might not even get it,” Oshana said, talking about a potential contract extension from Disney CEO Bob Iger, as Smith is under contract with ESPN. “I don’t see Bob Iger saying good for you, piss on them. No, I don’t think so.”
“I really feel bad for Stephen A. because I can’t imagine what it [would] be like [for] all these things you’ve been saying, all these things you’ve been believing, now he has to walk out and look at all this,” added Ellsworth.
In one of his recent videos, Stephen A. Smith has expressed that he is “independent,” and neither a Democrat nor a Republican.
Stephen A. Smith’s Nuanced Political Stance
Stephen A. Smith is an established and well-respected name in the realm of sports broadcasting. But outside of his onion on sports and the personalities surrounding it, Stephen A has been open about his political stance and while he has mostly been leaning towards being a Democrat, the analyst has expressed right-leaning takes in recent years.
In a separate video, the analyst expressed his disappointment towards the Democrats, saying that he is “sick and tired” and “pissed off” at how the party has been acting so far.
“My big issue is that I’m really, really sick and tired of every time I turn around finding something else that the Democrats have lied about or downplayed or misrepresented along the way,” Smith said. “You know what I’m getting tired of? To the Democratic party, you know what I’m getting really pissed off about? I’m getting really ticked off at every time they open their mouth about something pertaining to y’all they see [the] right to make the case, that the right had a monopoly on insidious, evil tendencies, corrupt tendencies, duplicitous, hypocritical, untruthful tendencies.”
Stephen A. Smith runs his own YouTube channel where he shares his commentaries on sports, politics, and other prominent issues.
