Stephen A. Smith expressed his intentions to run for the highest office in the country, as he recently admitted he is not “closing the doors” for a POTUS run.
In a recent interview, analyst Stephen A. Smith expressed his desire to take a chance in politics, straight to the position of president of the United States.
“I have no desire to be a politician,” Smith said. “My life is pretty well. But I’ve decided I’m no longer going to close that door. I’m going to keep my options open, I’m going to entertain the possibility and if it comes in 2026 [or] 2027 where I look at this country and I think it’s an absolute mess and there’s legitimate reason to believe that I indeed would have a legitimate shot to win the presidency of the United States, I am not going to rule it out.”
“I’m not playing.”

Stephen A. Smith has been vocal in his criticism of the Democratic Party, particularly in recent years. Smith has also criticized President Donald Trump in the past. For instance, he expressed concerns about Trump openly musing about running for a third term, which would violate the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Stephen A. Smith Clears Up POTUS Intentions
Following his statement of not closing his doors for a presidential run, Stephen A. Smith later on clarified that he has no real intentions of venturing into politics, but something “needs to be said” about the current state of the country, and thus his statement.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I’d love to sit up here and tell you that I didn’t mean what I said,” he said during the latest episode of “The Stephen A. Smith Show.” “But I do, and I think the time has arrived to let you all know. This is not something that I plan contrary to people bloating out there on their podcasts and stuff like that I’m no political aficionado.”
“Something needs to be said and when I say what I said people can dismiss it all they want to, [because] I have no desire to be a politician. I’m sincere with that.”
“I just signed a multi-year contract extension with ESPN that will pay me exponentially more than being a politician would ever pay me. I don’t need politics but the fact is that our country is in a very bad spot.”

Stephen A. Smith has consistently emphasized that he identifies as an independent rather than aligning with either the Democratic or Republican parties. He has expressed frustration with both sides, criticizing their inability to address key issues effectively.
