Stephen Curry is doing everything to drag the Golden State Warriors to postseason basketball, but it seems like he might miss the postseason again.
The 35-year-old is averaging numbers not seen since the 2019-20 season, which was the start of the small and painful rebuild the Dubs went through to win it all in 2022. With Jonathan Kuminga’s future at the Bay still as hazy as the San Francisco fog, it would be fair to consider Curry’s 16th season in the NBA as one where he won’t make a deep run as the roster might need an extensive overhaul.
While Chef Curry is completely focused on winning as many games as possible for the Warriors, that doesn’t take away from his passion for the Carolina Panthers. His childhood football team may not be playing so well in the NFL, but his reaction to a fantastic play by the team’s young quarterback shows Warrior Nation a peek into Curry the football fan.
Stephen Curry praises Bryce Young for Curry-like TD pass in NFL Week 18
Fans of the Carolina Panthers knew that the 2024 season was one to forget. Bryce Young, the young field general they traded up to get the first overall pick in 2023, started the season horribly.
The 23-year-old threw for three touchdowns and six interceptions during the Panthers’ first six games of the season, so he was benched for four games. However, he managed to rediscover his stride and put up a string of fantastic outings to finish the season on a high note.
Young’s final game of the season had him showing off at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, leading the Panthers to a 44-38 win. He finished the game strongly with 251 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Fans took special attention to one of his TD passes, where he imitated Curry’s signature no-look celly to mark the TD:
Bryce Young, doing the Steph Curry, is going to be a meme

Curry took note of the celebration, even going on his Instagram stories to recognize the play and celebrate the win:

Curry’s relationship with the Carolina Panthers
Curry has been a long-time Panthers fan. While the Warriors superstar was born in Cleveland, he grew up in Charlotte due to his father Dell’s stint with the Charlotte Hornets. It was there where his love for football and the Panthers blossomed.
Curry was a part of the group that bid for ownership of the Panthers in 2019, and his fandom for Carolina will likely last his entire lifetime.
Like many Carolina fans, Curry hopes that the Panthers would be able to build around Young and make impressive postseason run next year.
