Emotions are running high in the Bay Area with Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors set to play against their old buddy, Klay Thompson Wednesday night.
This will be the first time that Thompson will be playing at Chase Center in a different uniform since parting ways with the Warriors back in the summer. Now with the Dallas Mavericks, Thompson can expect a warm welcome from the crowd once he sets foot on the court against Curry and the team that he won four NBA titles with.
Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson agree to cancel pregame plan
While it’s just a regular-season game in November, it is more than just that, given how special Thompson means to the Warriors franchise.
A pregame speech from Curry was apparently in play before he and Thompson agreed to nix the plan.
As I reporter on SportsCenter, Stephen Curry will not address the crowd pregame. He originally was going to, but Curry and Klay Thompson had a conversion last night and agreed not to. They want to turn the attention back to the game more quickly.
With or without a pregame speech from Curry, there is no denying how big of an impact Thompson had on Golden State.
In 13 seasons (including two seasons lost to injuries) with the Warriors, Thompson averaged 19.6 points on 45.3 percent shooting from the field and 41.3 percent from behind the arc.
The Warriors enter the game with an 8-2 record while Thompson and the Mavericks are 5-5.
