Team USA eked out a nailbiting 95-91 victory over Serbia in the Paris Olympics semifinals after a poor showing in the first half. Down by 13 points in the final period, the trio of Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant restored order, scoring the team’s final 13 points down the stretch.
The Golden State Warriors guard was nothing short of spectacular against Serbia, as Curry went 12-for-19 for the field and 9-for-14 from three-point land en route to dropping a game-high 36 points. He also had eight rebounds and two assists in the victory.
According to Evan Abrams of Action Network, Stephen Curry’s 36-point performance is the most by any Team USA basketball player (men or women) in an Olympic knockout game. Because of his stellar outing, he has deservedly drawn praise from his peers.
Stephen Curry needed this performance since he hasn’t scored more than 11 points in his past outings before the Serbia game.
Team USA are one win away from securing another Olympic gold medal
Team USA aims to break France’s hearts again, as they’ll take them on the Olympic gold medal match for the second consecutive time. The Americans beat Les Bleus 87-82 in Tokyo three years ago.
Steve Kerr and co. are favored to win their fifth straight Olympic gold medal, especially since LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Kevin Durant have regained their rhythm in the semifinals against Serbia.
Joel Embiid had his best game of the tournament for Team USA, notching 19 points, while LeBron James recorded 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists and Kevin Durant added nine points, including the dagger pull-up jumper with 34 seconds left.
