NBA fans were taken aback when the Phoenix Suns made a surprising decision to bench star player Bradley Beal, sparking widespread speculation about potential tensions within the locker room. This bold move came amid the team’s struggles, as they aim to turn their season around after a disappointing stretch of games.
Just recently, Phoenix managed to break a frustrating four-game losing streak with a hard-fought victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, winning 109-99. This game marked a significant turning point for the Suns, as head coach Mike Budenholzer made bold decisions to shake up the lineup. Notably, Beal and Nurkić were benched, a move that initially raised eyebrows but ultimately paid off in the form of a much-needed win.
Beal, who had been struggling in the starting role, came off the bench and delivered an impressive performance, scoring a team-high 25 points. His ability to adapt to the reserve role allowed him to ignite the Suns’ offense, especially during the pivotal third quarter. Beal’s contribution was crucial, as he scored 20 of his points after halftime, helping the team regain control after a slow start.
The Suns had faced considerable challenges leading up to this game, having lost seven of their previous eight contests. The pressure was mounting as they sat outside the playoff picture with a 15-18 record. The decision to bench Beal and Nurkić not only aimed to improve team dynamics but also reflected the urgency of the situation, as the franchise looked to avoid further slippage in the standings.
NBA Fans React to Phoenix Suns’ Decision To Bench Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkic
Even though Phoenix won against the Sixers with Beal and Nurkic on the bench, NBA fans still expressed their thoughts about the move. Their reactions can be seen in a video shared by Chris Haynes on X.

“Holy,” Hoop Muse quipped.
“his is just gonna cause further tension,” JoakimNoahsark said.
“Good decision. Nurkic is a scrub, and as for Beal: The Suns might’ve played this perfectly to get him to heated enough to waive his no-trade to go anywhere else. Miami doesn’t want his salary. So Beal to a 3rd team could maybe work? And Butler ends up in Phoenix,” Kevin O’Connor explained.
“No one is taking that Beal contract. That would take like 3 picks for even a team to consider lol,” KnechtFromDeep posted.
“Not considering his salary, Beal fits well with the second unit. As the clear number 1 option he plays well. Starting Tyus, Book, Dunn, KD, and Oso/ Plumlee is a much more balanced lineup,” The Savage Wolfe added.
“And if the Jimmy thing doesn’t happen, Beal will be forced to accept a trade elsewhere,” Book’em shared.
“If that pisses Beal off to waive his no trade clause or demand a trade, that’s a W,” Shawn reacted.
Kevin Durant also played a vital role in the victory, adding 23 points and facilitating the offense effectively. The Suns’ bench outscored their counterparts from Philadelphia by a staggering margin, showcasing the depth that the team possessed, even against a shorthanded 76ers lineup missing key players like Joel Embiid and Kyle Lowry.
With this victory, the Suns demonstrated resilience and adaptability, setting a positive tone for the remainder of the season. As they prepared for their next matchup, the team aimed to build on this momentum and solidify their position in the competitive Western Conference.
