Devin Booker has joined his Phoenix Suns teammate Kevin Durant on the list of players who are not too happy with the new All-Star Game format.
Commissioner Adam Silver has decided to reinvent the festivities by injecting a new format on the main game between the league’s top superstars.
Instead of two teams ‘competing’ for the win, there will now be four teams – three from All-Star voting and the winner of the Rising Stars challenge – who will battle for the trophy.
Booker, who’s been to All-Star Games four times, is not a fan of the new format. He wants to go back to the old days.
“It’s change, it’s different. I’m more into the nostalgia. I agree with Kev, I like East vs. West, with your own team jersey. I like the old jerseys,” he said on Thursday.
That might be a good idea as wearing your own team’s jersey might be more compelling since the player is representing his city and not the conference. There will be more pride.
Devin Booker explains why All-Star Game lost competitiveness
Many players complain about the new format.
“I think we’ve been trying to bring that flare back somehow with All-Star Weekend, I think we just keep the tradition. We’ll see how this one works. You never know, I might be wrong, I’m just another guy with an opinion,” Durant said the other day.
However, there is hardly any player who can pinpoint what went wrong.
For Booker, it is because of many players already gearing up for a tough stretch after the All-Star weekend.
He thinks many of them already have their minds set for next games as they prepare for the playoffs.

“It’s tough. Tough part of the season. It’s like the homestretch we’re gearing up in. Most guys get into the game with priority or dealing with something. But it’s tough. It’s an important part of NBA tradition.”
The 2025 All-Star Game will be held on February 16 to be hosted by the Golden State Warriors’ Chase Center.
