WNBA veteran and new Indiana Fever player Sydney Colson recently opened up about her expectations and view on joining the Indianapolis team.
In an interview published by the Indiana Fever, WNBA veteran Sydney Colson talked about her expectations coming in to the Fever roster for the 2025 season, and how she thinks every team member would play a role in their overall dynamic.
In particular, she talked about Sophie Cunningham, who is also a new face in the Fever roster.
“I think we got a group that’s gonna be, I think much more light-hearted,” Colson said. “I think we’ll work hard together, but in game, I think you’re going to see a more free and like having fun kind of team.”
She also called the Fever a team “with a lot of positive energy.”
“I’m going from a team that was very immersed in media, people were excited to watch us, to another that is arguably the most talked-about team in sports right now,” Colson said. “It’s exciting to be a part of a team that has a lot of positive energy around it.”

How Did Sydney Colson Join The Indiana Fever?
Sydney Colson joined the Indiana Fever as a free agent in February 2025 after spending three successful seasons with the Las Vegas Aces. During her time with the Aces, she contributed to their back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023, bringing valuable experience and leadership to the team.
Colson, recognized for her defensive prowess, playmaking skills, and vibrant personality, was signed by the Fever to bolster their point guard position and introduce a championship-caliber player to their roster. Colson is also expected to be a key mentor for younger players and to elevate the Fever’s team culture.

Sophie Cunningham joined the Indiana Fever as part of a significant four-team trade involving the Phoenix Mercury, Dallas Wings, and Connecticut Sun. The Fever acquired Cunningham along with the No. 19 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft from the Mercury. In exchange, the Fever sent NaLyssa Smith to the Dallas Wings and the No. 8 pick in the 2025 Draft to the Sun.
Cunningham, known for her sharpshooting and versatility, had spent six seasons with the Mercury before the trade. Fever General Manager Amber Cox described her as a “perfect fit” for the team’s playing style, highlighting her competitive spirit and work ethic.

The acquisition of Sydney Colson and Cunningham was part of the Fever’s broader efforts to reshape their roster and strengthen their lineup for the 2025 season.
