The current Team USA is a superteam that NBA fans could only dream of.
Some of the best NBA players are serving as role players in the squad. The squad is so deep that a former MVP and a defending NBA champion didn’t even see the floor for the sake of fit. Any time Team USA is on the Olympic floor, basketball fans cannot help but fawn over the supremely talented roster.
However, one can argue that the reasonably young team is still run by its elder statesmen. Stephen Curry was nothing short of phenomenal during their incredible 17-point comeback against Serbia. Kevin Durant is now Team USA’s all-time leading Olympic scorer,
While the two have been amazing, one could argue that LeBron James is the heart that allows them to freely operate. King James is doing everything despite being the oldest player on the roster, and his recent outing against Serbia puts him in an elite category not even Michael Jordan achieved in his days with the Dream Team.
Team USA’s LeBron James becomes the first player with multiple Olympic triple-doubles
Fadeaway World’s Aaditya Krishnamurthy reported that the Los Angeles Lakers forward and future Hall of Famer’s superb all-around outing against Nikola Jokic and the Serbs makes him the only player in Olympic history with multiple triple doubles to his name:
LeBron James put up 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in Team USA’s win over Serbia. His previous triple-double came in the quarter-finals of the 2012 Olympics, where he put up 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists in a win against Australia. James is also the only player in Team USA history to record a triple-double at the Olympics.
The only other players in Olympic history to register a triple-double at the games are Alexander Belov, who did it for the Soviet Union in 1976, and Luka Doncic, who registered a triple-double for Slovenia at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. James continues to etch his name in several corners of basketball history.
This performance is a testament to how much of a generational player James is. It must be noted that James was a part of the 2004 and 2008 Olympic squads, which tells you how long he has been playing at such a high level.
Since Paris 2024 is almost certainly James’ final Olympic foray, he and the rest of Team USA will want to end things on a high note and take down France for the gold medal.
