Team USA’s game against Serbia in the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics men’s basketball tournament was not an easy watch for United States supporters. LeBron James and company were truly put to the test by Serbia, who came awfully short of sending shockwaves across the basketball realm, with Team USA coming away with a 95-91 win.
Serbia had a lead as big as 17 points and was up by 11 at the half. At the time, Green said that he nearly tried to contact James and Stephen Curry.
“My heart was in my stomach watching this game,” Green told former NBA star point guard Baron Davis during an episode of The Draymonnd Green Show.
“I know you had to probably like try and jump through the TV, probably text a player. That was at halftime. I was this close to putting Brian and Steph in the group chat like, bro. Like, ‘Come on, man. Come on, man.’ “
Team USA woke up in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter where it outscored Serbia by 17 points.
Key to the success of Team USA was Curry’s timely breakout performance in Paris. Curry showed everyone why he is one of the greatest ever to play basketball when he detonated for 36 points on 12/19 shooting from the field. He drained nine 3-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds. James did his part, too. He authored a memorable triple-double performance in a do-or-die matchup, making 16 points and getting 12 rebounds plus 10 assists.
The ride is far from over for Team USA, as Curry and company are set to lock horns with host France on Saturday.
