No Kevin Durant, no problem for Team USA as they took down Canada, 86-72, in a high-profile tune-up game for the upcoming Olympics. Unfortunately for the Americans, they might need to be without one of their best players moving forward as Durant continues to nurse a lingering calf injury.
At this point, there’s now some uncertainty surrounding KD’s status for the start of the Olympics later this month.
Team USA News: Kevin Durant Expected to Play in Olympics
According to a report by NBA insider Marc J. Spears, Durant could sit out the USA’s next two exhibition games. The silver lining, however, is that KD is expected to be ready for the Paris tournament:
“USA Basketball forward Kevin Durant (calf) is not playing tonight, is day by day and it’s uncertain if he will play in the two upcoming exhibitions in Abu Dhabi, a source said. But USA Basketball is confident that Durant will be healthy in time to play in the Paris Olympics,” Spears reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Despite the optimism surrounding Durant’s status, there is no guarantee that he will be able to play in the Olympic tournament. You can be sure that the Phoenix Suns will have a say in the matter too, and they will definitely want to err on the side of caution.
Team USA boasts a star-studded lineup for the Olympics, so they should have no issue replacing Durant if he’s unable to go. For his part, though, the former NBA MVP has to be relishing the opportunity to represent his nation at the highest level.
