Just recently, Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James labeled Team USA as The Avengers after defeating France in the Olympics. Shortly after, basketball fans took to social media to express their thoughts at the King using the superhero group for the United States’ national squad.

After leading Team USA to their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal, James revealed a fitting nickname for the star-studded squad: The Avengers. This moniker perfectly encapsulates the team’s array of superstars, who came together to achieve the ultimate success at the international level.

The 2024 Team USA roster was nothing short of a marvel, featuring eight NBA MVP awards between players like James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid. This collection of talent was so overwhelming that even a player like Jayson Tatum, fresh off leading the Boston Celtics to the NBA championship, struggled to earn consistent playing time during the team’s Olympic run.

Just as the Avengers assemble to save the day, these basketball heroes put their egos aside and united for the greater good. Their flawless coordination and synergy allowed them to steamroll their opponents and secure the gold medal with a dominant 98-87 victory over France in the final.

The Los Angeles Lakers star’s claim that Team USA has become The Avengers drew a lot of reactions online. As seen in a post shared by Bleacher Report on X, fans took to social media to respond to the group’s new monicker.

“2024 Team USA is really the Avengers led by the main 3 Avengers: Captain America = LeBron IronMan = Steph Thor = KD,” JBond posted.

    “Why the avengers?” t00ps.2 wondered.

“Lebrons obviously captain america, but then whos iron man or thor, or any of the other characters?” Killa asked.

“It’s an amazing nickname,” Key tweeted.

    “INSANEEEE,” Jahoops shared.

“LeCaptain America or LeIron Man?” offseason mano said.

“LeDream Team is better,” Stack’Em Sports reacted.

Team USA won their fifth consecutive Olympic men’s basketball gold, defeating host nation France with a score of 98-87 in a thrilling final. Curry led the American squad with 24 points, while James recorded a double-double. Despite valiant efforts from France’s Victor Wembanyama and Guerschon Yabusele, the US team’s superior talent and teamwork proved too much to overcome.

James further reinforces the Avengers analogy, as the four-time champion took on a leadership role in guiding this immensely talented squad. Moving forward, this year’s team will likely serve as the blueprint for future Team USA rosters, as they aim to extend the country’s streak of five consecutive Olympic gold medals.
