LeBron James and Team USA are still undefeated in the 2024 Paris Olympics. They went unblemished in group play which they punctuated with a 104-83 win over Puerto Rico on Saturday.
While James is focused on helping the United States win the gold medal, he’s also been keeping an eye on Team USA’s rivals, like France. Victor Wembanyama and Le Bleus are also headed to the quarterfinals but didn’t look very good in their last game against Germany, which James noted.
“I wasn’t very impressed with their last game. I didn’t think they were ready for the physicality of Germany,” James said about France, who lost to Germany, 85-71. (via Ben Golliver of the Washington Post. Other than that, they were playing some good ball,” the Los Angeles Lakers star added.
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards led Team USA in the Puerto Rico game, as he shined with 26 points on 11/15 shooting from the field. James had 10 points to go with six rebounds and eight assists. So far in the tournament, the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player is averaging 14.3 points on a 64.3 percent shooting from the field, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.3 assists through three games.
As for Puerto Rico, New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado paced them with 18 points.
The Americans continue to be dominant in Paris, but they can’t afford to lose their focus and be overly confident, with the knockout stages ahead in the tournament. Up next for Team USA is a matchup against Brazil on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.
