Team USA’s head coach, Steve Kerr, brought his team to dominating victories during the Paris Olympics. However, the Warriors coach isn’t perfect either, and his coaching management is also criticized by many.
Kerr’s decision to make Jayson Tatum DNP at the match against Serbia caught the attention of former NBA player Kenyon Martin Sr. Martin never hesitated to share his graphic insights about the head coach’s judgment in a discussion with Gilbert Arenas. For him, Kerr is incapable of leading Team USA and will be replaced by another one ASAP.
“If it was announced that Jayson Tatum might not play, they should have had (Kerr) f*****g admitted to a psych ward. No, we’re just going to put somebody in. Steve, you know what? We’re going to send you back home, man. You’re not well.”
Arenas also asked whether Jayson Tatum, currently on the Boston Celtics, was put under Kerr’s NBA team, the Golden State Warriors. As expected, Martin Sr. would also respond in a vulgar manner.
“If Jayson Tatum were ever on your roster, would there ever be a situation where he had a DNP? What the f**k makes you start now? This man is 1st Team All-NBA three years in a row.”
The 2004 NBA All-Star sympathized with Tatum, saying he would be given more experience as the Paris campaign unfolds. He implied he should be given more playing time with the veterans, James and Durant.
However, Martin Sr.’s insights are actually brought to life. In fact, the 2024 NBA Champion is playing more minutes after being DNPed in Serbia. He was even in the starting lineup in the matches against South Sudan and Puerto Rico. Even Kerr acknowledged his mistakes in not deploying Tatum.
So far, Tatum’s best play might be in the USA’s match against Puerto Rico. There, he got ten points and rebounds over 22 minutes. In the recent game against Brazil, he scored only five points over 19 minutes.
Team USA dominated Brazil in the Quarterfinals
As usual, Team USA continues to decimate their opponents. They successfully gave Brazil a terrible exit in the Olympics, 122-87.
Six of Team USA’s players scored double digits, with Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards scoring the most, 18 and 17, respectively. Embiid and Davis led the rebounding section, while LeBron James had nine assists.
The USA will face a rematch against Serbia in the semifinals.
